UMBELLULARIA
Inspired by the Umbellularia trees of Northern California, this hostel aims to translate the natural conditions of the tree into a structural, and subsequently spatial, mechanism. The hostel’s tectonic structure, modeled after the Umbellularia’s trunk, boughs, and twigs, also determines the division of interior space within the structure, and therefore the mode of socialization amongst hostelites.
This project was designed in the Spring of 2023 for Professor Elijah Huge’s ARCH I studio. All drawings, models, and photography are original work.
