N O T I C E.
Using a wide variety of metal fabrication techniques, N O T I C E. emulates the universally recognizable form of a CCTV camera and its outdoor support armature. However, instead of functioning as a camera (or a recipient of light), the sculptural work emits a powerful spotlight in a show of agency and aggression. In a reference to emission theory (extromissionism), the premodern idea that visual perception was accomplished by beams of light emitted by the eyes, this work situates itself between the human desires to propagate our individual realities and to surveil others.
This project was designed in the Spring of 2024 for Professor Elijah Huge and Daniel Moller’s Interdisciplinary Lighting Design and Engineering Studio, and exhibited in The Gribbel Art Library, in Middletown CT.
